Spin-off Companies

Our spin-off company, Complex System Inc., was founded in January 2005 as 100% Canada owned company. As a new start up company, Complex System Inc. has already procured several contracts with Department of National Defense, PROCOM Ltd., AirGate (USA) and InterDigital Communications. Corp. (USA). Although the initial partnerships can act as an exit strategy, another long term idea is to use the revenue generated by the spin-off, CSI, to sustain maintenance and further development of our research. CSI as a spin-off will commercialize IP and be a significant driver in enhancing the innovation in Canada. CSI will be a particularly effective means of technology transfer out of the university, leading to job creation and also wealth creation. CSI is an Alberta regional enterprise and therefore using it to commercialize our research will ensure that the product will remain a provincial proprietary along with IP aspects such as patents, copyrights, institutional designs and the value of future products and services that this software will generate. Currently, Complex System Inc. is devoted to commercializing chaos-based software radio and analog spread spectrum walkie-talkie.
