According to the Islamic Republic law, all children
born to an Iranian parent or parents are automatically granted the
Iranian citizenship no matter what shall be the naturalization
law of the birth place. In case of individuals acquiring multiple
nationalities, the only accepted one is Iranian.
In other words, the government of Iran does not acknowledge individuals'
right of selecting and/or switching nationality.
All male Iranians and those born to Iranian parents, with the age above 18 must complete a 2 years military service. Basic individual rights, such as granting a job, travelling abroad, may be denied from those who evade this. According to the Islamic Republic law, all children born to a Muslim parent or parents are considered to be Muslim. Individuals cannot convert from Islam to any other religion, under any circumstances. However, believers of other religions may convert to Islam, freely. According to the Islamic Republic law, Muslim Iranians are not allowed to marry non-Muslims unless the other part converts to Islam. This should be registered and certified by Iranian authorities. Children born to unregistered marriages under Islamic Republic law are not considered legitimate.
