What it's all aboutAs with any other software package the solution produced with the software is always as good as the human being in front of the computer. That means for effective use of MS Project it is mandatory to have at least rudimentary ideas about Project Management as an important area of Business Administration. Therefore we should define the word 'project' first and then explore some aspects and definitions of Project Management before we dive into the details of the software MS Project. A Project»A project is a well-defined sequence of events with a beginning and an end, directed towards achieving a clear goal, and conducted by people within such established parameters as time, cost, resources, and quality.« Although this sentence comprises most of the important points of project management, it is worthwhile to explain the key issues of project management in a little more detail. Key issues of project managementNote that this list of key issues is not a step-by-step approach towards project management. As you'll notice when you read this text, project management is not a linear process following a distinct route. It rather is an optimizing process always trying to find the optimal solution in terms of the restraints mentioned above. These key issues only provide the tools to do the optimization in an ordered, well-structured manner and should be the starting point for any good project management software as well. Now let's have a look what project goals are.
