Welcome to my home page!
My research group specializes in RF Integrated Circuit Design in a variety of fabrication technologies. The RFIC Design Group is part of the University of Calgary VLSI ATIPS (Advanced Technology Information Processing Systems) Laboratory, a provincially funded initiative of iCORE (The informatics Circle of Research Excellence), originally directed by Dr, Graham Jullien, now retired. I am currently the principal investigator in charge of the ATIPS initiative. I am also the co-director of the Advanced Micro/nanosystems Integration Facility (AMIF), located in the Calgary Center for Innovative Technology (CCIT), part of the Schulich School of Engineeing at the University of Calgary.
From 2002 to 2007, I held the TRLabs/iCORE/NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair in Broadband Wireless RF IC Design. TR Labs was the industrial sponsor of the chair program.
My teaching and research interests are in the fields of analog and digital bipolar and CMOS integrated circuit design, RF wireless circuit and system design, high temperature electronics, semiconductor device physics and instrumentation. I can be reached at the e-mail address at the bottom of the page.
A NOTE TO POTENTIAL GRADUATE STUDENTS AND POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWS:
Because of the vastness of the world wide web, we get a great many
enquiries
regarding the possibility of graduate studies, post doctoral
fellowships
and visiting scholarships. While we do not want to discourage anyone
from
making such enquiries, it is unfortunately not practical for us to
respond
to all of them, and I apologize in advance if I seem unresponsive to
your
specific requests. If there is a possibility of financial assistance
and/or
a position, I will respond. I wish you the best of luck in your search
for positions, and thank you for your interest in the University of
Calgary.
A list of recent Research Publications is shown here.
and their areas of research interest are as follows:
Andrew Macpherson High Speed, Low Power Analog-to-Digital Converters PhD, NSERC CGS, iCORE, AIF, MTT Scholarshps
Mostafa Rashdan New SerDes Systems (Co-supervised with Dr. Maundy) PDF
Mohammad Taghavi Optical CMOS Electronics (co-supervised with Dr. Belostotski) PhD
Aaron Beaulieu Self-Tuning Impedance Systems (co-supervised with Dr. Belostostski) Research Associate
Ge Wu RF LNA's for Radio Astronomy (Co-supervised with Dr. Belostotski) PhD
Dr. Chris Hayden AMIF Operations Manager, Laser Systems, MEMS Operations Manager
Dr. Yongsheng Xu High Performance Low Power ADC/SerDes Design Research Associate
Dr. Colin Dalton AMIF lab Facilities Manager, Microfluidics and MEMS Devices, Biomedical Systems Adjunct Professor, ECE
Since we specialize in analog IC
design, we take to heart a quote from Chris Manglesdorf (Analog
Devices) at ISSCC '96, where he said that "Analog circuit
designers tend to think of themselves as lone cowboys, brave pioneers,
creative and independent types, in contrast to the herd animals of the
digital IC world"
We call ourselves the Wireless
Cowboys - here is a group
picture.
