Scope

The Canadian Conference on Computer and Software Engineering Education (C3SEE) is an annual forum to discuss concerns related to the growth of Computer and Software Engineering. Many universities have established accredited Computer Engineering (CTE) and Software Engineering (SWE) programs within the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). The pertinent educational and pedagogical issues related to the expansion and improvement of this area, particularly in SWE programs and their relationship to the existing programs in both the ECE and computer science (CS) departments ought to be addressed.

C3SEE’04 welcomes participation from Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science faculty members from Canadian universities. The National committee and program committee of C3SEE’04 would like to encourage each ECE department and all interested CS departments in Canada to send at least one representative to this important event.

The 2004 Canadian Conference on Computer and Software Engineering Education, C3SEE’04, calls for papers on computer and software engineering education development in Canadian universities. Original papers are invited, in English or French, including but not limited to the following topics:

· Software Engineering as a Profession

- Formation of the scope of SWE

- Requirements from academic, national, and professional perspectives

· New Development in Software Engineering Education

- Establishment of undergraduate programs in engineering or non-engineering departments

- The role of computer science in software engineering education

- Architecture of software engineering curricula

- Foundations of software engineering

- Teaching methods (lectures, laboratories, tools, resources, funding)

- Newly developed courses

· New Development in CTE Education

      - Teaching methods (laboratory design, tools, resources, funding)

- Simulation versus hardware laboratories

- Embedded systems

- Real-time systems

- Computer networks and the web

- Systems design

· Graduate Programs and Research in CTE and SWE

- Innovative courses and laboratories

- Exchange of faculty and students

- Collaboration within Canada and elsewhere

- Graduate project reports and case studies

· Industrial and R&D needs for CTE and SWE: A Panel Discussion

- Industry

- NRC (National Research Council)

- TR Labs

- NSERC  (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council)

· Accreditation and Professional Registration for CTE and SWE Graduates

- CEAB (Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board) accreditation issues (basic science, math, electrical, and design components in CTE and SWE programs)

- Distance education and on-line learning

- Co-op programs
